  1. Once upon a time there was a man and a woman who lived on a farm and they got very poor. They had only one cow and the man went to the fair to sell her. On his way to the fair a little man came out of the ditch and asked would he sell the cow in exchange for a bottle. At length the farmer decided to give him the cow for the bottle. The little man told him he should never be sorry and that he would never want for [?] if he did what he told him to do with the bottle. He told him when he would go home to clean up the house and put a white cloth on the table and place the bottle on it. And say "bottle do your duty".
    When the man went home and told the wife what he got for the cow she was very angry, but she did as he told her
