    The landlord drove me from the cot and where born I had been
    And that's the reason why, my, boy, I left old Skibbereen.

    And well I do remember boy, the year of forty-eight
    When a movement started 'mong the boys to battle against fate,
    We were hunted o'er the mountain then as traitors to the Queen,
    Because we raised fair Freedom's Flag on the hills of Skibereen.

    Oh well I do remember still that dark November day,
    When the Peelers and the Sheriff came to drive us all away.
    They set the roof a blazing then; oh! what an awful scene
    And when it fell the crash was heard all over Skibereen
