    pupils to their houses after school hours and he spent the night in their houses turn about.
    In some places the children were taught in a barn or disused houses and sometimes in byres the manger stick serving for benches.
    The salary the teachers were paid was something like a shilling a quarter contributed by the children.
    The principal book the children had was called Reading made easy the Grammar, Arithmetic, spelling book and writing with a quill pen was also taught.
    The pupils sat on forms and wrote with their copies on their knees.
