  1. There are several local poets in this district. One is Mr. Matthew J. Maguire.
He used to live in a wee house just behing Whiterock School. He was a bit eccentric but extremely musical.
He wrote several little pieces but the following one he had set to music.
    The Love Birds.
    There's a pretty little nest,
    Way out in the West
Where two love birds rest in the gloaming,
    While throughout the day
    Her mate is away,
    She fondly waits his homing
It's then t'will be agra machree
    Oh! what joy and bliss
As she steals to his ear
Then he can hear her softly whispering this:
    Chorus,
I've been so lonely all day long
