    Pass Sunday: The first Sunday in Lent is called Pass Sunday because any girl who was not married on Shrove Tuesday had a pass on her as all the new Brides were out.
    St. Patrick's Day: The old people used to treat all their friends to whiskey. This was called "Wetting the Shamrock." Sometimes poteen was used.
    Easter Sunday: People eat a lot of eggs. There used to be a bet on to see who would eat the most eggs.
    May Day: If a young lady gets up early and washes in the dew on the grass before the sun rises, she will be beautiful all the year round. There is great superstition attached to this day. In bygone days the fairies and witches used to take the butter on May Day.
    St. Swithin's Day: If rain falls on this day it will continue raining for
