People long ago found eggs buried in the potato garden when digging the potatoes. These were supposed to have been put there by a bad neighbour who wanted to send them bad luck.
Evil-minded people buried the "sling" in their neighbour's dunghill to send bad luck to the neighbour.
When cattle died they were buried without showing them to anybody - to prevent bad luck.
Horses were buried with their skin and shoes on.
If a cow "slung" a calf - aborted - the old people buried the "sling" under the cow's head in the stall, or wherever the abotion took place. This was supposed to prevent its recurrence.
