- (continued from previous page)There was once a farmer who had one son and he sent him away to be a thief. There was another man who said he would have to do three things for him when he was trained and if he failed he would shoot him. When Tom came back the first thing he told him to do was to take two horses out of a plough and three men watching it. He went and filled a bag with young rabbits and let them go one by one down the hill. When the men saw the rabbits they ran after them and then Tom took out the horses out of the plough and brought them to the man. The next test was to take a horse out of a stable with a man standing in the door and another man sitting on the horse's back. He went away and bought a bottle of whiskey and a bottle of sleeping drops and he got both of them labelled Irish Whiskey. Tom came round to the stable door and fell. Then the men saw the whiskey and they took it out of his pocket and they drank it. They also took the bottle in which the sleeping drops were and drank it and before long both fell asleep. The man on the horse fell down on the ground. Then Tom took out the horse and brought him to the man. The next test was to(continues on next page)
