The cake was made or pressed out flat and in a round shape Then it was baked on the tongo placed on coals pulled out on the hearthThe later form of this called oatbread was shaped in the form of a square above ten or twelve inched in the side and baked before the fire on an iron affair shaped this [image] It stood upright or nearly as before a good turf fire A B being flat on horizontal to keep the cake from the ground C D a bent iron bar hung at C kept this griddle standing in positionBoxty bread was made if there was a plentiful supply of potatoes. The potatoes were grated on a tin affair eight inches long and six inches broad with holes bored in it with a wire nail. The water or juice was pressed out by wiring the grated stuff in a fine cloth. Through this was shaken some flour and all then kneaded, pressed out flat to a depth of half an inch, rounded cut into flour equal parts and baked on a pan over the turf fire.
