  1. The oldest burial place in this district was on the Island of Inistemple in Lough Melvin. The forms of graves can still be seen on the north side of the ruins of the old church still visible here. There is no tomb stones or head stones and no one has interfered with the old graves to see if there are any which have fallen and become covered with soil. This was the burial place for the people north of Lough Melvin up to the 16th century as the people South off the lake along Dartry district buried in Rossenvir graveyard beside the old church of St Mogue. The remains of an old road coming from the North across the Derryherk bogs and ending at Burke's Parish can still be seen. It was paved and is so all as can be seen running due South in Temoney's land then in raver' land where it is crossed by the new County road leading from Kinlaugh to Garrison on the North of Lough Melvin.
