  1. Nora na gCeann was one of the "wives" of The Earl of Clanrickarde. her right name was Nora Burke. One night their friends attacked the castle, but the Earl, on reaching them, cut of their heads and was then known as Ulick na gCeann. When Nora was living in Ballyturn she used to punish the poor people and cut off their heads. The people said, "Indeed she is like her husband", and from then she was known as, "Nora na gCeann".
