- There is an old barn about two hundred yards from this school which served as a School before this one was built in 1886.
It is situated on the Dunmore road almost in the centre of the village of Garrafrauns.
It is about 34 ' x 12' and about 9' high.
It had one door , one four-pane window at the front and a smaller sized one at the side.
The floor was made of clay and the roof was thatched.
The teachers name was Mr Godfrey. He walked to and from Dunmore every day.
Each pupil paid 1d per week for his education.
He was also obliged to carry two sods of turf every morning so as to make a fire, which was burnt in the corner in order to let the smoke through a hole in the roof.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
