The patient visited him three times and he measured her head three times on each occasion and said certain words all the time while doing so.
Cure for Clévchín. The clévchinis a small bone in the chest which presses inwards and causes the patient great pain. A man names Corless, Carranthomas, Dunmore, Co. Galway used to practise a charm for the cure of this complaint. He used to place a small round oat cake on the clévchín. Over this cake he placed a tumbler and said some words while doing so. if the tumbler did not adhere to the cake while he said the words it was a sign that the patient was not suffering from clévchín and if he had the complaint the tumbler would stick to the oat cake and draw out the clévchín and in this way relieve the sufferer.
