On the field of Aughrim there is a small valley called Gleann 'a Fola (Glen of the Blood)

On the field of Aughrim there is a small valley called Gleann- a- fola (Glen of Blood). In this place a few regiments of the Irish refused to surrender and they were all killed by the English the morning after the battle. Moore's poem "After the Battle" refers to this.
    I
Night closed round the Conqueror's way,
And lightning showered the distant hill.
When those who lost that dreadful day.
Stood few and faint but fearless still.
    II
The soldiers hope, the patriot's zeal,
    Forever dimmed, forever crossed,
Oh; who can say what heroes feel.
When all but life and honours lost.
