    Passing the village of Crackna he was attacked by a dog. I think the dog merely barked at him in a rather vicious manner. The Sgt threatened to shoot him.
    John was on the scene and someone suggested that the incident would be a suitable subject for a verse.
    John without any hesitation or as the lady who described it to me said
    "John put his head on one side and said
    Now Sgt Mullan youre very bold
    Or impudent I should say
    To say you'd shoot our dog
    Upon the Sabbath Day
    Our Dog he knew you pretty well
    And only said bow-wow
    A hint that you would understand
    That she was in the know.
