  1. There was a poet in my district and his name was Patrick Barry.
He was of no fixed abode. He was a teacher before National Schools were built and he went from house to house teaching his scholars, and the scholars paid him according to their means.
He remained in certain houses, even in my own, for about a week at the time and then used to go on to the next and so on.
He composed many songs which were chiefly in Irish, most of which are forgotten, except by very old people.
He died at about the age of seventy but it is not known where he died as he travelled from place to place during his lifetime.
Another poet called also Patrick Barry lived in Mountainray, Coolishal.
