    The storm abated at about five o'clock leaving misery and destruction every where. Hay and oat stacks tumbled, trees uprooted and houses fallen in. Forgetful folk didn't store coals, and as matched were unknown the people had to borrow coals from their wise neighbours.
    Cattle were left in need of food because the taste of the salt was in the grass and also there was little grass (but) that wasn't covered with brushes, sods or other things.
    The storm of 1839 is an incident never to be forgotten as long as Irish people live
