    The marriage over they went to a public-house where all drank and danced till closing time
    They then set off for the bride's house. the men striving to see who would reach the houses first, for the first man home got a bottle of whiskey.
    No one was allowed in till the married pair went in first and a cake was broken on the bride's head.
    The man who won the race then divided his bottle of whiskey.
    All then sat down to supper and more drink went round.
    Then more dancing.
    If a fiddler could be had he supplied the music but if not some good hummer hummed jigs and reels.
    There was a great hummer in my time called Biddy Sweeny from Brumsheen.
    About midnight the wattlers (straw boys) came and took charge of the house.
