    He got into his boat, rowed out to them, where they were struggling in the whirl, and brought them safely to land.
    They paid him a good sum and called him their saviour and pilot and from that out he was called "Pilot".
    I married and settled in Glenree and I was never called by any name but "Pilot".

  2. About twenty years ago there was a great poteen-maker in Glenree called Joe Mullarkey or Joe "Jameson" as some called him.
    He was a carpenter by trade and could make anything from a still to a coffin.
    He brewed his poteen in Broca Dubh a lonely spot in the Sliabh Gamh mountains which form the eastern boundary of Glenree.
    He made it from brown sugar, yeast and treacle.
