The women wore long black, or brown or green dyed petticoats.
These petticoats were woven by a weaver in the district and dyed by the women themselves.
To dye them black they used to boil them with the roots of briars.
To dye them green they boiled them with green slippy stuff which they got on rocks in the river.
They dyed them brown by boiling them with grey moss which they called "Sgraith Cloch".- Collector
