'Sean baile' means 'old village'. 'Tooreen' in which the National School is now built means 'the Bleaching field'. It got this name because long ago the people bleached flax in it.
'Baile na Cloiche' means 'the village of the stones' is another name of a village in the locality. There is also another village called 'Kilbroga'.
