  1. Long ago when people did not know the use of oil they made candles. they got two strings to cloth and knotted them together. They dipped the piece of cloth in gravy or tallow. They then left it out on the windowsill to cool. They got a piece of stick and split one end of it. Then they stuck the candles into a rod of turf.
