- St John's night the 23rd of June is the bonfire night. A fire is lighted in every village. In the evening, a number of boys, go about from house to house gathering turf. They get a load or two in each house, they make a heap of it and at about seven or eight o'clock it is lighted. The people, of the village, gather to it, and they have great sport. After a while, the old people come, and they go around the fire three times, and say while doing so, three Our father's and three Hail Mary's and three(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
