    Folklore
    Peddlars in old times are something like the poor beggars of day. They used to go about the country gathering old rags, woolens, horse hair or broken wool. In exchange they gave pins, needles, hiair and such like or sugar stick and candies to children to encourage them to collect the old rags for them. The better class of them used to have a horse and cart or ass and cart to convey
