sow them in drills. The ridges are made with a spade. The drills are made with a spade or plough. Wooden ploughs were not used in the district long ago. The spades were bought. The potatoes were cut from eye to eye of the potatoes. They make a hole and stick down the potatoes in the hole and close it with earth. The neighbours sometimes help each other in sowing the potatoes. The pit is made with hay and earth. We have several kinds of potatoes namely, British Queens, Champions, Leaguers, Great Scots and a great many others. The Champions are the best eating potatoes. Potatoes were used to make starch long ago. they used to make bread of the potatoes as well long ago, and some people mak bread of the potatoes yet.
