  1. The old people say that Hollowe'en night is all spirits' night. Some of the tricks played on that night are taking off gates, putting bushes across the road, and trying the doors of houses. They used to say that it was unlucky to throw water out on Hollowe'en. A crowd of young boys gather together and take wheels off carts and thrown them in flaxholes, pull cabbages and throw them on the street. They tie the door on some cranky fellow.
On Christmas Eve night the door is left open. There is a big fire left on and a cup of water is placed on the table for the Blessed Virgin. Some people think that if you go to the well at twelve o'clock on Christmas night you will get a gallon of wine.
