- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)there is one shoemaker but it has not been a tradition in his family. Boots were very costly and so clogs were made from wood and leather in most districts. They were light and cheap but made great noise. They are seldom worn now. About two hundreds years ago a very progressive tannery was in Oldcastle in the Co Meath. The hides of animals were tanned into leather chiefly by the hand. It was the main Industry in the town in those days and the tan-house is still to be seen in good repair and the proprietor (or owner) is Mr Tuite, the Tangyard, Oldcastle.
