  1. Very few drowning accidents occur in Lough Ramor which is nearest to us owing to the skill and courage of Pat Hopkins of Virginia Co. Cavan who if he knew of any one in difficulties ran to the lake and without divesting himself of his clothes plunged into the water and went to the spot he was shown, dived down to the bottom and brought the man to the shore.
    A man named Smith of Mullagh a perfect swimmer went for a bathe took a cramp and came up three or four times. Whew Hopkins brought him to land he was dead. The doctor used artifical respiration and administered brandy but of no avail. This accident happened thirty years ago.
