- A water scout is a kind of toy for "skiting" or squirting water. If well made it will skite the water a great distance. It is made from a wild plant called a hoarn. The stem of the plant has a hole through the centre; here and there are knots in the stem.
To make a scout a long stem of the plant is chosen. There must be a knot at one end and none at the other. The piece usually is one foot long. A little hole must be put in the knot to let the water through. Then a bit of a stick a little longer than the other bit is got. A bit of cloth is tied to the stick at one(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
