  1. The Dance at Clooneen Cross
Last Sunday evening at half-past seven,
I took a stroll down by Cloneen Gate.
And as I wandered I sadly pondered
All o the country's sad lonely state,
As I thus reflected the crowds collected
To throw a stone or play pitch and toss
And how the dancers tripped sets and lancers
In bygone days here at Derrinlough Cross.
    I cursed damnation and emigration
That drove those colleens across the sea
And left my feelings so hard for dealings
And turned my thoughts towards America
In search of a foreigner at the Sandy Corner
I plainly heard some melodeon tone
And the scene I gazed on, it would amaze one
And put new life into crippled bones.
The crowds were dancing, it was most entrancing
