    Old Poets
There was a great poet named Tom Hodgins living in a place called Corna Frirish. it is about a mile from Ballycumber on the road to Ferbane. He was born in the year 1808, and he died in the year 1868. He is dead about seventy years. The people liked him very well. He was buried in a graveyard in Castletown called Varna Villa. He was also a peeler. He met a man named Larry Dillon one day and they composed a song about a pig. Larry Dillon was also a poet. He lived at the Pound. Tom Hodgins wrote many lovely poems. The people know some of them yet. He also wrote lovely songs, but the people do not sing them yet. He loved the people very well. He lived in Castlemun for a short time. one day he went to Ballycumber fair. The people used to play a game called Thimbles. Tom was sure he was going to win, he put down a pound on them but he lost it. When he looked round Larry Dillon was looking on so they composed the following poem.
