- No doubt many and various are the things that are made in the parish. For instance there were two linen sheets made by Mr. Lowry's mother about one hundred years ago. The people also used to make starch out of potatoes. Every family long-ago made their own candles and this was how it was done. They used to roll the fat of the pig that they would together and put a bit of wick between the fat. The wick was made from a piece of string that was boiled in oil and dried carefully. They were called tallow-candles.They were used last at Michael Bracken's(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
