  1. Clonbroney means the meadow of Bronac. Bronac was the daughter of Milcho, and was baptized, and professed a nun by St Patrick, who was Milcho's slave.
She founded a monastery at Clonbroney, which probably was the first monastery founded in Ireland. When St Bridget came to Ardagh she visited the monastery.
The walls of this monastery could be seen up to about seventy years ago, I am told. They were then pulled down by the land-lord, to build a bridge across the Camlin, beside Hughie Lee's house, and near where the monastery was. A house was built from the rest of the stones, by a man called McManus. He sold the house to a man called Brown, who after-wards sold it to a man called Jack Reilly. The latter is the present occupant of this house.
There is no trace of the monastery to be seen now, and in it's place there is a grave-yard. This grave-yard is the second place, that St Patrick ever consecrated in Ireland.
