    the ruins of the Monastery and of both the round-towers and the little chapel in which St. Kieran was buried can be seen shimmering in the haze.
    In the Summer months people throng to the Batteries as it is a very healthy place. There is always a refreshing breeze coming from the bog lying to the West of the Batteries, and from Lough Ree. It is a great recreation ground for children. The boys of this School have the Batteries as a playground, and it is reckoned as one of the best playgrounds in Ireland.
