- Long ago houses were very much different from out present houses.All the old houses were made of mud walls, with a strong light beam from one wall to the other. The sticks were tied to this with hay ropes. The roof was then thatched with rust which were got in the fields.The fire was usually at the gable end of the house. The chimney was made of wickerwork and clay. Sometimes there would be no chimney at all just a hole in the roof to let out the smoke.There is an old house near here in which an old woman lives. It is a small sheet iron house with bushes all around it, it has no chimney a all, the smoke comes out the door or through the window.The floors were made of(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
