“Wooddown had two teams long ago.”
Wooddown had two teams long ago. The were called the Wooddown Rackers. The two teams had forty-eight men in all, twenty one to each team and a few over.
They were a good team. They played almost everywhere in Westmeath. Sometimes they were drunk when playing. Once they kicked a Dublin team and the result was a draw.
There were four posts at each end for goal posts. Between the two middle posts the goals were scored. Between the middle posts and the outside ones the points were scored. One man was needed at each end for all the posts.
