When perfectly free from buttermilk it was salted, with the hands, put on a "trencher" and pressed and shaped into rolls or "prints". Nice stamps were used to adorn these rolls and prints and when this butter was well made it was much sweeter than the butter of the present day.
If a neighbour came in while plunge churning was in progress he or she always took the dash to give a helping hand as it was considered unlucky no to do so.
