    About fifty years ago the Scarlatina was very bad up around Stonestown. It never left a house but it went into mine or ten people died with it.
    The time of the big war in France about twenty year's ago half the country died with the flu in the counties of Westmeath and Meath especially around Athboy. There were six coffins in Athboy Church at the one time and when the people died they turned black the people used to say the disease came from the war in France the east wind was bringing it over.
    The dead Bell in Athboy for two monts never stopped ringing from morning till night. -
