- This was told to me by my father age fifty-six ''Thomas Walker'' residing at Bawn Finea Co. Westmeath.
The domestic animals on our farm are Cow, sheep, horse, dog, cat, calf. Our cows are called in by the the name "cows". They come into the gate at the same time every evening. They are put into an open shed and tied by a chain. They are tied by the neck. The pig is kept in a sty. The dog sleeps at the door and minds the house, or sometimes he is tied with a chain round his neck. The calf is kept in the field. The calves that are small are not put out in the field till they get older. Long ago when calves were put in a shed they eat hay and to keep them from eating hay a muzzle is put on their head. It is made out of a porringer with little round holes on the bottom.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
