- (continued from previous page)every Sunday evening at half past seven. A boy named Patrick Campbell use to assist him a devotions. He had a small pot which he used as a bell. He had a white robe which he wore as a soutanne. John Mansfields imagined he had the faculties of a priest and dressed in a white sheet for a surplice. He had a boy acting as trail bearer. There lived in neighbourhood a man named Edward Gaffney whose brother died and after some years he appeared to him. Edward Gaffney went for John Mansfield to settle the ghost. John Mansfield got his assistant Patrick Campbell to come with him. He went over to Edwards house. They went out into the garden. John Mansfield had a big book under his arm understood to be a prayer book. He gave orders to Edward Gaffney to(continues on next page)
