They must be rolled up in a bundle and brought on three Sundays to the church while Mass is on and holy water sprinkled on them and then worn by the person who gets them and he must pray for the dead person Twelve candles are lit round the bed of a dying person to protect his soul from the devil as no evil spirit can came in through a ring of fire or light You should make the sign of the cross on yourself with a little burnt sally rod on St Patrick's Day. If you can't do it yourself somebody must do it for you. The person who makes the sign of the cross must be fasting from 12 o'clock the night before. If not fasting no good will be got from it. The rod should be green and cut from a sally.
