- There are many old houses in this district, the oldest of them are about 200 years. At that time there was no cement and very little stone. The houses were built with turf sods and stone mud was used instead of cement, briars and horse hair were put in the walls to catch the mud plaster,
There were sods and briars placed on the roof and then it was thatched with straw. The floor was made with mud and clay and it was left until it became hard.
They were only one storey houses with three or four rooms in them.
