- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The names of the seed potatoes are:- Champions, Kerrs Pinks, Irish Queens, Dates, Hibernians, Epicures, British Queens, Diamonds, Golden Wonders, Bloomers, Scotch Champions, and Aranvictors. Before the potatoes are sown the women cut the potatoes into "sets". They must be very careful to have an eye in every "set" or otherwise the potato would not grow. The "sets" are sown about a foot apart along the drills. Then they are covered with a light cover of clay.
Great care has to be taken to the potatoes during the year. They have to keep them free from weeds. Sometimes clay is put up to the stalks, by means of a plough. This is called "landing". Other times the farmers scuffle the potatoes. They are dug in the months of October and November. When the garden is big the potatoes are dug by means of a plough, and when it is small they are dug by means of a spade. When all the potatoes ___ they are put into a pit. they are left in the pits for a few months.
