- The setting of the sun on the previous evening appears very pale when rain is expected. The moon has a halo around it, when it is going to rain. The stars are very numerous in the sky, when rain is expected. When the clouds are moving quickly in the sky and especially when when there are white clouds in the sky it is a sign of rain. When the fog is going northwards it is a sign of rain.
When the wind is from the south it is the sign of rain. The south-west wind brings the most rain. Cocks flap their wings a great deal and hens appear restless and uneasy, when rain is expected. Ducks and geese quack more often and more loudly than ever, when rain is expected. The thrush is heard singing more loudly than other times. The swallows fly low and skim over the surface of the ground and spiders are seen crawling on the walls, when rain is expected. Seagulls fly inland especially when it is going to rain.
