  1. There was a great drought in the year 1887. The only crops that grew well were wheat, and potatoes. The oats, turnips and mangels failed.
    All ponds, and streams dried up, and water had to be brought from the river. The fields were burned, and there was no grass. There was no rain from 3rd February to the 6th September.
