  1. We know of a number of old lime-
kilns which existed in former times. According
to the old people six of them existed but
evidence of two is all that now remains.
The people brought the lime-stones from
Bawn. They got turf and let it down
through the top of the kiln and burned
the lime with it. The burnt lime and
turf went out through another hole at
the base and the people used it for
    manure for reclaiming boggy land.
Allmost in every house there was a
spinning-wheel in olden times but now there
is only one that can be seen in a
farmer's house in Ballinouse. The people used
to spin thread and weave flannel long ago.
Hayes is the name of the person who
has the spinning wheel at present. Even yet
they spin yarn for the knitting of socks.
