- "Adown the glen rode armed men."The glen here mentioned is "Gleann Gearr". Sarsfield and his men passed this way on their way to "Ballyneety". They camped at "Cnoc na bhFear". Traces of his camp-fire, the charcoal he used for shoeing the horses and old shoes are still found. He readjusted the shoes of the horses here for their final dash to Ballyneety. They spent the night previous at "Cnoc na bhFear". They crossed the "Pope's River" when all were ready. There were two Hogans in the company, one called Galloping O'Hogan who was true. The other was false, and is known as the "Would-be Traitor." The signal was given "O'Hogan advance and reconnoitre." The false one answered and ran away down the hill. Sarsfield soon discovered his mistake. He sent Galloping O'Hogan in and says he:- "give a signal." O'Hogan soon overtakes the traitor. Said the traitor "Now is the time to make a bit of money by betraying Sarsfield"
"O.K. lead ahead" and when they were watering their horses at Popes River the false one met his doom. "Well done, O'Hogan," quoth(continues on next page)- Collector
