  2. It was an evening in the close of the eighteenth century. The crimson sun sank slowly carefully as it were over the dreaded Luschra hills. What terror such sunset brought each evening to the inhabitants of the peaceful little valley of Barna nestlings in among the hills th eonly gap or opening in this great range.
    Another day was dead as a participle of time but destined to alive for ever in the history of this small townland. A lone horseman was making his way home from Newcastle West to Menoline. At the foot of Barna hill at spot where the Railway bridge spans the road he met with the dreaded Sprid na Barna and now before I recount any more of this fateful nights proceedings let me give you some of th ehistory of this weired spirit.
