- Long ago the people of Carrigaline manufactured candles at home.
This industry was carried on by boiling the fat of a pig, which is called lard. A large pot was placed on a fire and the lard was boiled. When boiled the pot was taken off, and a stick was got, at the end of which were tied a few cotton threads. These threads were stirred about the lard, the person holding the stick; and according as the lard got cool it tied to the threads. After some time a candle was made. - In Carrigaline, in the olden olden times, the people cured sprains or broken bones, by boiling the Dandelion weed, and rubbing it to the sprain or bone; this was a very successful(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
