  1. One custom still survives in connection with St. Brigids Night. On St Brigid's Eve some people put a large cloth on a bush near by, and leave it there during the night. This cloth laid on the head of a person suffering from headache effects a cure.
    Bonfire night St. John's Eve.
    On this night a large bonfire is lighted, and when the fire is going out the children run round it, and jump over it. Then they take a small quantity of the fire - ashes or stick, and bring it home - and put it in the potato gardens as a preventative of disease.
    Cows are made to jump over the bonfire to keep them well for the year.
