    Long ago the bread was made from oats grown locally, or from potatoes.
    The oats was grown at home and was ground by querns and made into flour as there were but few mills.
    The querns were two stones with a hole in the middle of one and the oats was ground between those.
    The bread was kneaded with water and a cross or a star was cut out on the top of the cake to help it to bake or for ornaments.
    It was baked in a griddle which was a flat piece of iron.
    This was placed on the fire and the cake was placed on this to bake.
